Robinhood Country

This past weekend we had to go up to the east midlands for a work issue. Since we were up there already we decided to head on over to Sherwood Forest and Nottingham.

I have recently mentioned that I was getting bored with castles. That bordome was assuaged with Nottingham Castle. While the archetecture wasn't all that super cool, the history was AMAZING! From William the Conquerer to Robinhood to King John the Pretender to the caves of Roger Mortimer. The city is built on top of a maze of natural and manmade caves. We went down into one of the manmade caves and looked around. The cave was used to hold Catholic church serves when Henry VIII was on the throne.
Prince Hank riding in to the rescue!

Prince Hank was a good humored monarch.
His sister, Princess Soph was cranky and mean spirited and life was difficult under her rule. The crankiness was related to the fact that it was COLD outside and she didn't want to wear pants or jacket. When she finally agreed to pants they were quickly pulled off because they were, "TOO TIGHT!!!" Royalty can be so hard to please sometimes!

We went on a "ghost tour" of the city which was really interesting, not scary and more tinged with humor, but very interesting. This photo was taken in a cave that is reportedly haunted by a little four year old street urchin named Rose. According to the guide many people who take photos down there get what he calls orbs in the photos. Our turned out with orbs on them, but only Daddy's turned out with a blue orb. The guide said that if you zoom in on the orbs, they look like crystals. You can zoom in on the one on this photo and see what you think.

There was a ferris wheel in the city and the Little Bean insisted it was called a "spinning wheel!"

The castle had a really neat exhibit that demonstrated how people lived back in "the day." I learned how to turn wool into thread. I also learned that helmets and amour is REALLY heavy.

We also got the chance to take our turn in the stocks!

  1. So what's with the super smarmy looks from the Little Bean? And that Baby Bean is a handsome little devil and such a ham!
