County Fair

The Devon County Fair was held recently and we thought we would go and check it out. The kids loved the farm animal section. They had sheep shearing competitions, pig, cows, horses, alpacas, llamas, and poultry. Hank wanted to pet all of the animals including the GIGANTIC pig/hog creatures. I have NEVER seen a pig that big. They just lay in there pens snorting and snoring and didn't even notice the ribbons pinned to the wall. They were really gross. Hank reached through the slats of wood and scratched their wire hair covered backs. He also liked the cows. There were about a zillion different types of cows and some were super pretty and sweet and some were gigantic breeding bulls that reminded me a lot of the pig/hogs as they just lay down snoring in the hay.

We saw a horse jumping competition. Sophia was impressed until she realized she couldn't pet the horses in the warm-up ring. Those things were so skittish. A few of them had little tantrums and were rearing up and getting all silly excited. Hank tried to climb the fence.

I also insisted we visit the dog show arena. We got there as they were judging the working group. The dogs were GORGEOUS! The Great Dane was particularly wonderful. I learned that dog shows are incredibly boring and nothing like the ones they show on tv. We didn't manage to see who won in the working dog section as we got bored and wandered off.

Sophia's favorite part were the games and rides. she won a prize in the duck catching game, rode on a few kiddy rides and then insisted she be allowed to go on the tilt-a-whirl. I tried to get her on the ferris wheel instead, but she was intent to get on the tilt-a-whirl. So I took her. She was practically frozen with fear the entire time and asked to go home once the ride was over. Silly girl.
