Project Tadpole - LEGS!

Project Tadpole continues to be a hit here at the Beany house.  We are down to eight tadpoles from the 1 gabazillion that hatched from the frog spawn.  We slowly released the tadpoles as they got too large to fit into our tank.  There are way more tadpoles still alive in the pond this year than last.  I think it is because we protected some of them in the beginning and they were not just crow and magpie snacks.
The two poles above are interested as you can see the developmental differences.  The one on top (Daddy-pole)  has both back legs that are getting strong and his face and eyes are changing to look more frog-like.  The pole on the bottom just has little leg nubs that have not developed far and his eyes are still tadpole-like.

Daddy-pole showing off his strong legs.

Freckles-pole also has nice strong legs and frog like eyes.

A nice close-up of the scrapey tadpole teeth/mouths.

We transferred the tadpoles yesterday and Soph was such a super helper.  I caught the poles, handed them to Soph, and she gently lowered them into the water.  She is my little nature girl!  Hank loves to watch them and drags a little step stool over so he can see them.  He talks to them and says, "Hi, baaaabies." super cute.

unrelated bits:
1) Soph found a spider in the house and rather than scream and run or stop it, she got a cup and a piece of paper, caught it and let it go outside.  I love that kid!!
2)  In Hank's gymnastics class there are three kids named.....Rufus, Henrietta, and Herbert.  The last two are twins.
