Fushia Update

Fushia has started his long journey into mothhood.  The Elephant Hawk Moth is one that buries himself in the ground and spins his silk around himself and the dirt/mulchy undergrowth.  He then starts making his cocoon.  This is the phase he is in now, so we can't really post any photos of him for now.  Maybe in the next couple of weeks we will be able to get a photo of his complete cocoon.
The kids are having a hard time understanding this and want me to dig him out of his hiding hole.  Poor Fushia.

Hank was less than pleased that his sister got into his photo.  That face is JUST LIKE HIS FATHER.  It is a mix of annoyed, disappointed, and disgusted.  I have seen this look a million times from my son, his father, and his grandfather!  Clearly it is genetic.

Hank loves to hold the caterpillar.  He would sleep with this thing if he could.

He is so gentle with the little guy.

Sophia is convinced his feet are crazy pincers and would only let me put him on her leg.  Silly girl, at least the photo shows just how big this crazy caterpillar in.

Thought this photo was pretty cool.  I think he looks like a snake or something scary with those spots on his head looking a lot like eyes.

We are a little sad Fushia has gone into her cocoon as the kids LOVED to watch her.  When we came into the house they would immediately got to her cage to check on her.  They would pick willowherb for her to eat and loved watching her chomp them down.  It was quite impressive how quickly she could go through all those weeds.  Maybe we will find some more to watch.
