Crawdads and Snake Hunting

Yes, we are rednecks. Poor Little Bean doesn't stand a chance.

Yesterday it was really hot and muggy out (how can it be muggy in a drought?), so we thought we would take the dogs down to the creek to cool off. The little bean did not want to be left out, so she put her toes in the freezing cold water of the creek and loved it. She giggled and laughed and watched the dogs tromp around.

Needless to say, the pups had a fabulous time, running and splashed through the water and underbrush. We figured that they had scared away all the critters and it was safe for me to take the little bean down into the water.

I was convinced that there would be a snake down there, especially after I saw that black racer the other day near the cow trough and my dad saw another one when he was cutting and raking the hay. There has been a drought here, and that is usually when all the snakes start showing up because they are searching for water. We just leave them alone because they kill rats and other critters, and because we are tree huggers and don't like killing things that aren't trying to hurt us.

There are also usually crawdads down in that creek, but we didn't see any. When my brother and I were little we would go down and catch them and they would pinch our toes. I think the little bean is too young for that yet. Give her a couple of years and I am sure she will be a master crawdad catcher. Enjoy the pics!
