Nice Quiet Friday - Not So Much
We were so excited that the Husband had today off. We planned to go hiking, run some errands, and just have a nice quiet Friday. Then, the day began!
So there we were, hiking through one of the many peninsulas off the Potomac. This was rumored to be a place where bald eagles build their nests in the winter to raise their little baby eagles. We decided to bring the puppy bean along to see how he would deal with a hike. The farthest that he has been was the .5 mile walk to the park and back. The other day I ran most of the way back with him hoping to tire him out. Alas, this only served to charge up his batteries. So we thought a longer hike would be good for him. Okay, so there we were, hiking along. The dogs were off leash and the Puppy Bean was doing great. He and the Big Bean were jumping and running and being silly. They would sniff around and then RACE to catch up with the Husband and I. We were having a great time. Then it all changed.
About 1.5 miles into our hike, we stopped to get a snack for the Little Bean. The Pup was chewing on a tree and poking around. He had been keeping up really well, and staying with "the pack" all was well. Then all of a sudden, he put his nose to the ground and took off running. We called and called to get him to stop and come back, but he disappeared. The Husband and I took off after him, but he was just gone!
I was mortified and had visions of our poor little puppy scared and lost in the woods at night. The more we called and looked for him, the more upset I got. We finally made a plan that the Husband would stay in the area where he disappeared and call for him and I would take the Big Bean and high tail it back a mile and a half down the trail to the car, calling his name all the way.
When I finally got to the car, there he sat by the rear tire listening to me calling for him, but not moving a muscle. I was so relieved and angry and impressed at the same time. I couldn't believe that the little guy was capable of tracking back, sniffing out the trail for over a mile and a half. We all know that the Big Bean could never do that. He is also a stubborn little snot. HE decided that he was done hiking and went back to the car. Who does he think he is?!?!?We called the husband, put the bad pup on a leash and went to meet him, then we all agreed that we should go home. I was emotionaly drained.
BUT THAT WASN'T THE END OF OUR BAD DAY!
On the way home we encountered some kind of crazy guy on the highway. As we were driving along, this truck came up from behind us super fast. The driver apparently got a little aggitated that it took us more than .5 seconds to get out of his way. I am only guessing that he was angry based on the fact that moments after we changed lanes he tried to run us off the road! The husband honked his horn and attempted to get the guys attention thinking it was an accident that the man was driving directly into our lane. This served only to enrage the man because he then sped up, lurched his truck in front of us and slammed on his breaks! It was INSANE! We came super close to crashing into him. Honestly we did NOTHING to provoke this crazy guy. I think he may have had some road rage issues.
Finally, everyone made it home safely and we all took a nap! Shew! What a day!
Thank goodness for naps! What a rough day.
ReplyDeleteAt least there were no cows for him to run after and bite...what a nightmare.
