Getting Ready To Go Home

Our Cajun Vacation has finally come to an end. We are heading out tomorrow morning and will be driving all the way back home. I am not really looking forward to the drive home, but...

Today was the official Mardi Gras and we went to yet another set of parades. The weather was wonderful. It was in the 80s and mostly sunny. We were there all day and came home with sun burns. This evening we all went out to dinner at this very cool restaurant that was located right on the bayou. We went out back and walked just a few feet and were on the bank of the bayou. We were looking for gators but didn't see anything. Next time we come back down here were will have to do one of those swamp tours.

These are photos of our trip to the cemetary. The photo below is of a community buriual area. They said that the bodies are put in the little vaults and then because of the heat and the humidity that they are basically slowly cremated. In a few years they can open the vault, take out the large pieces of coffin, push the bones to the back and then insert a new coffin. This way they can bury loads of people in a super small space. The photo below here is of the tomb of Marie Laveau. She was a famous voodoo queen and her tomb is visited by many followers. The people here took a drink of liquor, kissed the tomb, and then lit a couple of candles. They didn't seem to mind the fact that we were watching their little ritual.
The tomb with various offering left in front of it.
The Little Bean sitting in an empty tomb. I realize that this is a bit creepy but...

An old crypt that has fallen all apart.
Here are a few more photos of the adventure.
