Big Girl - Big Changes

This weekend the Husband and I decided to start moving some furniture around for the eventual arrival of our new baby. We debated buying a toddler bed for the Little Bean, but decided instead to just convert the crib into a toddler bed and when the Future Bean arrived we would transition her into a big girl bed, convert the crib back and voila! We would be all set. To be perfectly honest, the Little Bean slept either with me or in a bassinet beside the bed until she was around six months old. If figure the same will happen with the Future Bean too. It just helps to have them in the same room when they are nursing. So the Little Bean will be free to have a nice slow transition from her toddler bed into a big girl bed when her brother comes along.

ANYWAY, I was super worried about this toddler bed thing. The fact that the Little Bean could get up and run around her room scared me, and I insisted that we move anything that could hurt her if she decided to get out of bed in the middle of the night and poke around. So we started to move things into the Baby's room, and switch some stuff around. The Little Bean didn't seem to mind to much. She was pretty excited about everything, but nothing so much as the discovery of her old Moses Basket. She slept in that thing a LOT when she was tiny. She was running around and watching and playing and poking around while we moved everything. Suddenly I hear "Mama, I Cold! Cold, Mama!" coming from her future brother's room. When I walk in there, she has folded herself into the moses basket and wants me to cover her up with the blanket that she drug in there for just that purpose! It was hilarious. She played in that thing the whole afternoon!

Last night, I was pretty nervous about putting her to bed in the toddler bed for the first time. I was sure she would refuse to lay down and we would spend the whole night putting her back into her bed. All my fears were for NOTHING. She lay down, snuggled up, and went right to sleep! After she was sleeping well, I put a down comforter on the floor in front of the bed just in case she fell out. I am REALLY glad that I did. At about 0400, I woke up and looked at the monitor, there was NO baby in the bed, so I went to check it out. She was nowhere to be found. I looked all around her room and panic was creeping in when I saw one little foot sticking out from under the bed. She had fallen onto the comforter, continued sleeping soundly, and eventually rolled under the bed. She didn't even wake up when I pulled her out from under the bed and put her back down to sleep!

I think we will have to get one of those barrier to put up on the side of the bed to block her from falling out. Silly girl.
It is amazing at how easily this has gone. Of course, we are only talking one night and one nap. I am sure she will eventually realize the potential of her freedom and things will get harder, but for now, I am SO relieved!

Speaking of freedom. The other night, she took off her diaper to use the potty and when she was finished, she got away before I could get another diaper on her. She ran into the living room, looked at her father, held up her hands, and shouted, "FREE! FREE!" before running off again! I am not sure where she learned that, but it has become a trend. Every time she gets to run around with no diaper on, she does the same thing.
