Castle Drogo

Soph's preschool had and auction to raise funds for the school and we won tickets to Castle Drogo. So...we set off to see Castle Drogo.
This was the last castle built in the UK and was built by a business man in the early 20th century. The guy wanted the castle to be as "castle-y" as possible, but still have all the comforts of a home in that era.

The entire castle was super interested and some of the family stilled lived there even though parts of it is open to the public. The furniture and all sorts of other things were original and pretty cool. The only problem was that visitors could touch NOTHING. This included the old toys and doll houses sitting out to be seen by visitors. This was a really difficult concept for Hank to understand. All the toys and cool stuff were right out there with no barriers and he wanted to play with them. There was a lady in each of the rooms to ensure no one touched or broke anything...and to answer questions. They were really nice ladies, but it was pretty obvious they had their "hawk eyes" on the kids.

While the castle was neat, it is NOT super kid friendly.
The outside and gardens were pretty cool and there were no ladies reminding kids not to touch stuff. This was great since we got to the castle before it opened and had some time to kill. We settled on the grass by the back walls of the castle and had a little picnic. The view from this spot was gorgeous!

The photo below was taken by Sophia while we were waiting for the castle to open. It was pretty chilly that morning, so much that the kids wore hats to keep their ears warm.
Hank's new thing is to walk and hold my and Soph's hand. It is so cute when he runs to her holding his hand out. That semi-sweet girl never refuses to hold his hand.

At our little picnic we had a few slim jims. This picture cracks me UP!
