Hiking Back At Home

A quick hike back at home. Because we had carried those kids all over eight different countries for two weeks, we decided to bring the stroller for our hike. At first the kids shared happily.

Then, not so happily shared. It was super cold and windy and rainy...it was August!
Hank wanted to show off his new dinosaur hat as well as the amazingly fantastic rock he found.

Soph chose to wear one of her famous fashions on this little outing. Here you see a pair of pink skeleton pajamas coupled with a too small jumper/dress topped with a too small coat, my hat, and her green wellies! We all agreed she looked just like Sophia!

School started today and gymnastics class starts tomorrow. Soph has taught herself to do somersaults, a headstand, and pretty cool leap off of various high objects with a landing flip, and is working on her cartwheel! The other day she demonstrated that she could climb up the doorjamb in the living room by holding onto it with both hands and then sliding her feet up under her. I have no idea how she figured this out or what made her think to try it. She also jumps from the arm of the couch, flipping in the air and landing on the couch. The child clearly needs an outlet for her jumping/climbing/flipping craziness.

The funny thing is that Hank tries to do what Soph is doing and generally just ends up getting hurt. Tonight he was jumping off the ottoman and trying to land in the flip/roll like his sister. Most of the time he just landed on his face/head/back etc. He didn't seem concerned as he just got up and did it again. He also enjoys jumping from the recliner to the ottoman and back, which isn't too big of a deal until the recliner starts rocking, but he almost always makes it. The child isn't even a year and a half. I shudder to think what he will be doing at three! He definately needs an outlet too. That or Soph will come home from gymnastics and try to "teach" him things. Luckily, the gymnastics club has classes for both ages!
