Of Pirates, Scooby Doo, and Dog Diabetes

Daisy update: The pancreas scan showed no sign of cancer. The vet indicated the pancreatitis is chronic and would return off and on for the rest of her life. The diabetes is here to stay. She is currently on 15 units of insulin twice a day. Her blood glucose is still up around 17/18, which is high, but lower than 26. We are sticking with the 15 units of insulin for a week and will then re-evaluate the situation. She was clearly feeling better today and even played with Cash a little. She hates the site of the insulin and hates the glucometer even more. The Husband had to get the blood today, but it was much less traumatic since the vet gave us some numbing cream to put on the pup's ear. I think we are starting to get the hang of it and hopefully it will get easier. I am looking forward to getting her stabilized and my sweet puppy baby getting back to being herself!

Sophia is crazy interested in the whole situation. She has to watch us take the blood and give the injections, then she hand feeds Daisy individual kibbles to make sure she eats and covers her up when she lays down. It is so sweet. I am waiting for the moment her princesses have to have injections.

We finally got the lights working in the toy room so Hank and Soph "re-discovered" lots of their toys. Hank was super excited about his cammo hat. I like how he wears it all cocked back like he works at the motorpool.
Tonight while dinner was getting ready Daddy was drawing pictures with Hank and Sophia and I were playing with the face painting kit. Since we were really just poking around for a few minutes we made her into a pirate.
Here she is acting like a pirate. She is banging her fork and spoon on the table and chanting, "Food and Drink! Food and Drink!" She would fit in well as a pirate with her feral behavior!
Not sure if the mustache is really a pirate mustache or not. Who cares, she thought it was great!

Funny note: While playing today, everyone got a little bit wild and Soph ended up yelling "SHUT UP" (that is the only bad word she knows...thank goodness)
Mama: Sophia, go to your room!
Sophia: I'm sorry!
Mama: Sometimes just saying I'm sorry isn't good enough.
Sophia: I'm REALLY sorry!
Mama: Are you so sorry that you won't do it again?
Sophia: No, Mama, I am not that sorry.
The husband was barely able to stifle a laugh. At least she is honest!
