Springtime Scavenger Hunt

This past week has been super warm and spring-like.  With the exception of the rain, it has been wonderful.  There were short intervals when the rain stopped, and a few times, the sun even came out.  It was during one of the rare moments of sunshine that we decided to go on a hike/mud puddle jump.

While we were out, Soph and I were searching for things on a springtime scavenger hunt.  We downloaded it from this cool website, http://www.naturedetectives.org.uk/download/hunt_spring_early.htm.  The Little Bean was so into it.  She was so excited when she found the items on the list that she insisted we take photos.

Hank didn't get into the scavenger hunt, but he did find lots of cool stuff like a super big hole, pine cones, and some very exciting sticks.

The thing Hank found most interesting was the mud!  After all the rain we have had recently, there was LOTS of mud.  He even got his foot stuck in the mud a few times.  Sophia had the same problem, except her boots actually came off!
This is what Hank and the dogs looked like after our walk.  Hank had to travel home wearing just a t-shirt and diaper.  Not sure those jeans will ever be the same!  A small price to pay for the awesome morning we had up on the common.
The first scavenger hunt find, spring flower shoots.  As the independent observer, Daisy had to verify the find before we could mark it off the list.
A tree with green buds was clue #2.  This was a bit harder than the flowers as she had to look above her head.  Daisy verified, and we marked it off.
The last clue we photographed was of bird nests.  Sophia found those all by herself and was SO proud and excited.  To complete our hunt we found catkins, a bird, and a crocus.  By the time we were finished the paper was a muddy mess.  We were also pretty muddy too.
