A Night On The Town
The Husband and I stayed in New Orleans last night while the Gran took the Little Bean to her aunt's house. So we had a big night on the town. We came downtown and watched a huge parade where we scored tons of loot. There was a huge crowd for the parade and we managed to get a spot right up against the fence. It was so much fun and we screamed and screamed for beads and stuff. The Husband is super tall with long arms so he could catch EVERYTHING. It was so much fun. Again the floats were amazing and this time the theme was "A Tribute to Rudyard Kipling." The floats were all done up like his writings. There was a Jungle Book float and a Gunga Din float, etc. It was super cool.
After the parade we walked down to Burbon Street and the French Quarter. It was INSANE! I have never ever seen anything like it. It was wall to wall people for over a square mile. Most everyone was completely drunk and doing some pretty silly things. We wanted to get to a certain bar, but after fighting our way through the crowd for over seven blocks, the bar had a line wrapping around the corner waiting to get in. So we just got a drink and wondered around watching all the craziness.
One of the craziest thing was that right in the middle of all of this blatently wild behavior was a church group urging all of the revelers to see the light and repent of their sinful behavior. They had huge signs condemning everyone straight to hell. It was really odd.
Today we are going to tour the French Quarter, see some of the old cemetaries and then go to one of the biggest parades of Mardi Gras.
I will post photos soon.
