At The Park With Bad Emily

We took the Little Bean to the "wings" today and for the first time in a while there were other children there. Unfortunately for us, one of them (Bad Emily) was really annoying, in fact she was shockingly TERRIBLE. One example, there was a two year old boy there with a ball. Bad Emily (4 or 5 years old) took the ball from him and when her mother told her to give it back she responded with, "But I want to play with it." Her mother had to threaten all sorts of things before she would give the ball back to the poor little two year old!
Then we were pulled into Bad Emily's drama! All the kids really liked the Big Bean and wanted to throw the frisbee for her, but Bad Emily kept screaming that it was her turn (it wasn't) and demanding that I give her the frisbee. She even tried to push the other kids out of the way in order to get to the frisbee. And by other kids, I mean other kids AND the Little Bean! We managed to hold her off and allow each child to get her turn until we left. On the way out Bad Emily walked up to us, pointed at the Little Bean's tricycle and said, "Excuse me, but I did not get a turn on that toy." I about fell over at her audacity! Needlessly to say we just kept walking while Bad Emily went to talk things over with her mother!

Seeing this little girl has made me super paranoid about the Little Bean. Just the thought that she could be as naughty as Bad Emily scares me. We will have to be super careful about sharing and taking turns!
She was very jealous of the other children playing with her dogs and there were tears, but she is only 22 months old. I expect that she will be better by the time she is Bad Emily's age!

  1. Trust me.....at 22 months kids are still at the "Me" stage and will be for awhile. Sharing is a hard thing for them to do. Imagine someone telling you to share your wallet and how you would react!! That's what it's like for them!

As long as you surround Little Bean with good structure and clearly stated rules, (I'm a firm believer that kids want rules)you will have a well adjusted child....and by well adjusted I mean with NORMAL behaviors...including temper tantrums and self obsession)
    You'll be fine I'm sure!
