Plymouth

As promised here are the photos of our trip to Plymouth to see where the Mayflower set sail for the new world. The steps down to the water are supposedly the same ones the Pilgrims used to depart England.
We always travel somewhere on the weekends and often during the week as well, as we have to drive up to the bases to finish all the required paperwork. Not to mention, the husband rarely actually works. He just goes in and has tea with the guys. Right now it is 2205 on Thursday night and we are driving up to Suffolk to PICK UP THE VAN!!! Yeah! HOWEVER the drives are almost always a nightmare. Not because of the roads or the driving but because of three specific issues...1) the rental cars are so unbelievably (**&!ing tiny! 2) The kids are so restless. The Baby Bean continues to detest his carseat. Every time he is put into the car he begins to scream and scream and scream. It is so pitiful because the tears just roll down his cheeks. I have decided that it isn't so much the carseat, but more the fact that he is turned around and only sees the seat rather than anyone's face. The Little Bean gets bored and is jealous of all the attention given to her screaming brother. (I was driving today by myself and was reaching back to hold the Baby Bean's hand and the Little Bean piped up and said, "Mama, it's not fair." I asked her what wasn't fair and was informed that the injustice lay in the fact that I was holding her brother's hand and not hers.) 3) We ALWAYS get lost once we get off the highway and into the towns. As one would expect of a country that has been inhabited for a zillion years, the roads are crazy and wiggly. Some end in dead ends, some look like alleyways but are actual real roads, some have so many cars parked on them that they become one lane roads. The biggest problem with the roads is that they don't have their names marked! Naturally it is quite difficult to follow directions based on street names, when none of the streets are marked. Maybe this is why the Brits do not like to take road trips. You really need to know the area to have any idea where the heck you are going, that or be prepared to drive around for hours on end until you accidentally stumble upon the place you were looking for.

Some of you have pointed out that all of our photos show only cloudy rainy days. Here is proof the sun does come out on occasion. It actually came out enough today that we went to the park. We put on our new wellingtons and clomped through the mud and had a fantastic time. The only negative was that when we purchased our wellies there was a problem with my shoe size. We wanted good quality shoes that would last for the whole time. The only quality shoes available in my size were BRIGHT PINK. They are ridiculous. The Little Bean thinks they are wonderful and takes every opportunity to show that our shoes match!
These are wonderful pictures! That is a wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving. I am so glad that you are picking up the van, I know everyone will be happy to have some room when cruising around the UK. I also am loving the fact that your wellies match your phone, you are turning into a giant girl!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would like photographic evidence that you are actually wearing pink boots, otherwise anyone that knows you will not believe this to be true.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the wellies!! The little bean looks so beautiful in her black dress! I am so glad that you are keeping up your blog so faithfully. It definitely makes life in Saudi a bit more bearable.
