No pics, but I will put them up when we get home
Today we got up early and went on a great hike. The Husband chose the hike, and I went along with him, asking no questions. BIG mistake. The hike was only eight miles round trip, so I wasn’t too concerned. My mistake was that I did not bother to note the increase in altitude during said hike. We started out walking up the super steep switchbacks. By the time we got to the one mile mark, we were both breathing heavily and feeling the “burn.” Of course the Husband was hauling the Little Bean on his back, while I was just toting the lunch, water, and extra clothes on mine. Between the baby and the pack, we are guessing he had about 25 pounds to schlep up the hill. After the first mile, the trail just got steeper and rockier. Even though we were both sucking wind and feeling the altitude, we were determined to finish the hike. Three miles later, we trudged to the top of the hike and were rewarded with an amazing view from almost 7,000 feet.
While enjoying our lunch, I was accosted by a highly trained attack squirrel. This creature continuously and brazenly assaulted me trying to steal my sandwich. In fear for my life, I threw him piece bread. My second mistake of the day. This only encouraged him to come back for more, this time bringing his friends, the RAVENS! Have you ever seen how big a raven’s beak is? They are freaking HUGE! I had visions of them pecking my eyeballs out if I didn’t surrender more of my sandwich.
Finally, my entire sandwich was gone, so we headed back down the mountain. Note that the Husband didn’t have this problem because he inhaled his sandwich in about two bites. J
After making it to the bottom of the mountain, showering, and heading out for Sequoia, I looked up the hike. From the bottom to the top was 3.8 miles. The altitude increase was 3,000 feet. That is almost 1,000 feet per mile. THAT IS STEEP! Next time, I am picking the hike.
I'm jealous...of those glasses you have on sophie. :P
